More Geometry

With 100% of voters (so who cares that out of 150 visitors only one person voted??? :-) ) liking the look from yesterdays post I thought to switch the tie and square around so as to mix the round shapes (known as circles) with the square shapes.

Viola! (The camera wasn't behaving today)

Of course forgetting about the geometry thing you can always go with something like this.

Tomorrow we deal with potential customers requests.

Geometry

Here is a look that utilizes 4 patterns, (Stripes (suit), Checks (Shirt), Rectangles (Tie) and dots (square)).

Feel free to vote and of course comment on this one please.

From the Archives

Busy short Friday here but I pulled some things from the "archives" of looks that I had put together for customers on request which I now upload for your viewing pleasure.

A no brainer the first.  Blues working harmoniously together, and varying patterns as well.

Same here with a larger patterned tie:

Switched shirts for this and used a greyish and beige to complement the beige and ecru flowers in the tie.

A great weekend to all.

Evolution

Sigh...If I knew then what I now know with regard to digital photography I probably wouldn't have these ties on the clearance page...

Answering a call at 11:30PM last night I spoke with a customer who was looking for something in the coloration that I shot below for a wedding in which he was a guest.

What was once photographed as this:

Is in reality this:

And works in to the black suit, white shirt and white square like this:

"You've come a long way, baby"...

Grey is Great

You have heard me say this before, but it bears mentioning yet again because of how true it is.

Grey is great.  Versatile, Good looking and in many cases Rich.

The suit was out from yesterday and I put three of the new collection together with it with the following results:

Blue and pin kis a really nice combination.  The blue shirt gives the pink a nice pop which allows the tie to jump out at you.  Pin kand grey is good.  Grey and light blue is good.  All in all a winner.

The rusty orange here is nice against both the blue and the grey, for a variation on the theme.

Using the blue shirt here would have been risky and is generally the case when you have lighter color blues against light blue shirts.  If the colors are not right it will end up looking BAD.  Navy of course in a tie is safe against light blue shirts.  Instead we went with the grey check.

From these parts.

Shake Up

So I got some feedback on the "and so it begins" post..."Jonathan...Lets see some action with those ties.  Its no biggie to match them with a dark suit.  Get lively,  willya?"

I hear ya as I was feeling that a little myself.

Here is a little more excitement with the tie and not being content and already having the suit out where I went from there.

I started with this square figuring to get a little color on the breast pocket but didn't like the combo.  Too similar to what RL wanted to do this past season with the paisley ties they introduced.

I think that the tie and shirt combo needed something that was a little more sedate and classy which brought me to this:  I have already mentioned that I think this square is a real beauty.  But truth be told I am partial to pastel colors.  Always have been.

Which is these ingredients.

Keeping the suit, and swapping out the tie and shirt.  I went gray twill shirt here and the burgundy tie and having enough color I toned it down with the square that has greys, browns and a little black as well.

Here you see the colors of the square up close.

Same shirt, tie and suit and swapping out the square for this:  ( a bit more zong, and unnecessary I think)

Another square option.  Again, perfectly acceptable.  Toned down, yet crisp.

Which you see here:

2 new and one older

Ahhhh...A very busy Sunday it was for yours truly, trying to balance business and pleasure, i.e. family, but I did get a chance to snap three photos of ensembles that I had put together from the kids shop earlier this week before running out Sunday afternoon.

The first 2 are from the new collection (we often match kids versions of the ties we do in men's, or to put it in better perspective, we often match the Men's ties from things we do in the kids :-)  ) and you will see them again when I get back to photographing the men's ties.  The third is from the kids line only from seasons past.

All are Hickey freeman His First shirts and suits/Sportcoats.  As the kids dont often wear squares I didnt display them with, but I might just shoot them again with complementing squares.

I chose a blue pin stripe shirt on the first sportcoat as it has a fine thread of blue running in there which you may or may not be able to see in the pic.  The gold and burgundy on the tie work great with the black and brown sportcoat.

The second is a blue suit with a feint purple bar stripe in it which makes the blue appear purply, hence the lilac check shirt and the heavily purpled paisley tie (This is from the older collection in the kids.  I didnt do this in Men's).  Probably better would have been a solid lilac shirt but I didnt have one immediately on hand.

Finally, tried and true, Medium Blue pin stripe suit, Pink Shirt and blue large paisley/floral tie.

Happy Monday to all.

And So It Begins

The buying season from Spring is winding down bringing along with it the selling season in full force with our customers returning from the mountains and Summer homes. (Summer? When was Summer? :-( )

What that means to me is that I will be at the store more and more able to work the camera into the schedule. If that's a good thing or not will have to be your decision. :-)

PS: I am very excited as the box of scarves from Colombo finally made it to me having been improperly routed at a UPS facility (and ending up for a few days in Florida and then Kentucky. The scenic route here :-) )

Here goes.

First up, navy suit with a Lavender shirt and this tie. The texture and the lavender satin stripes look nice against the shirt while complementing the suit. The square adds a third color and pattern.

Here you see the pattern on the square.  Green works with navy, Burgundy works with navy, as does the gold hightlights.

On a whim I swapped the lavender tie for the Blue and Brown with this result.

Of course it works better with the Light Blue shirt which you can see here.

And a nice change with the Burgundy version on that same square.

The colors didnt show so well on the detail photo.  Its more burgundy than red.

More and More Scarves

To further the claim that I have the LARGEST on and off line selection of scarves available, I introduce the following in the fall collection.  These only include the wools and wool knits (quite popular and cost effective).  We still have about 25 styles of  Colombo Cashmeres coming and the same with Alex Begg Cashmere and Wool/Angora.  Many of these are two sided so as to have a pattern on one side and a totally different one or solid  on the other.

When I have a little more time in the day (i.e. when Buying season for the kids shop finishes in a week or so) I will put more of these together with coats as well as get back to the ties ensembles on the new collection that I promised.

PS:  Did I mention that the colombo Coats came in and are wonderful?  100% Italian cashmere at $950.  Not bad!

Scarves

Breaking from what I promised (I seem to have an affinity for that) here is the beginning of some looks of scarves and coats.

Incidentally the coats are currently half off to make room for the Colombo Cashmere coats that have just arrived.  Magnificient!

Shown here are the Loro Piana Virgin Wool with coat made by Prandina and a colombo box died olive scarf.

Purple and Navy

Another "request" taken from AAAC.

The shirt is a light purple and there was a request thrown out to the crowd for a tie.

Here are some thoughts in the navy department:

First up is a Navy Satin based tie with lilac stripes shown with a grey suit and a green square from the new collection. For a match on the shirt the best I had was the Hickey Freeman His First which is why the collar is soft.  In this lighting the checks show up darker than they really are.

Then, swapping out the tie for a more patterned floral also in the navy satin.  Love that tie!

Here with a navy suit.

Small and Sweet

How I describe our Fall 08 Tie and square collection.

Action photos to follow.  Scarves later this week as week. A boat load of Colombo Cashmere coming in soon too!

Your thoughts?

And the squares:
