Some More Fall

Here are some more fall looks for you with that same Hickey Freeman Jacket, this time though with a grey twill shirt you have seen before

In some of these cases though I kept to typical ties with fall-like colors as opposed to textured wools.  Darker is usually considered more fall-like being more somber and all that, dont shoot me, thats just the way it usually is.)

The square was a nice Burgundy/Rust/Gold one with darkish colors that complement nicely the black of the jacket and you can see the detail here.  Pretty much every color in the square would work independantly with the jacket.

The tie used here is a blackish with a blue stripe tie from Petronius.  The hand on the Petronius and Attolini ties are simply wonderful.

A four fold (Italian Seven Fold) Attolini Tie with the charcoal grey field and a rusty burgundy stripe.

Burgundy as you know is a classic color which works well with most things (as does the ever so boring grey) Here is a burgundy cashmere silk blend.

And here is the same blend in Blue

Bulking Up with Fall

In the Children's Boutique we have been receiving Fall merchandise for about a month now.  One of the items was this Hickey Freeman His First sportscoat, a rich worsted wool houndstooth with a black base and a delicate medium blue check in it.  A beautiful piece that threw me off a little with regard to shirts so I tried some things:

First a Blue  Shirt:

And settled on the Lilac (but will probably tweak it a little tomorrow) .

Keeping with the colorations I kept a familiar square from this season that we had used before with grey's and burgundy highlights and a thicker weave tie that has a depth to it. The coat demands it. Here is what you get:

Swapping out the black tie with the lilac dots  for its burgundy brother (Both wonderful staple type ties) gives you this.

With heavy flannely fabrics like this you can easily and properly go with a textured wool type tie. The result when combining the coat/square and Tie (a cashmere and silk blend with a wonderful hand) was this:

The Backup Tie

So after deciding on square number 3 due to its vibrancy (as mentioned before this square and others of its ilk can probably go with most anything due to the colors it has)

Mr. Wedding guest was advised by Mrs. Wedding guest to take a tie just in case.  I like Mrs Wedding Guest.  :-).

My feeling though was that a very busy tie will play against the vibrant square and in light of the fact that it was a wedding albeit in California, we were best off with a more plain (relatively so as you will soon see) tie to work into the ensemble.

Here are my choices (and I add that we arent limited to these, they were what came to mind quickly and any form of blue against blue (lighter blue preferred) would work)

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="460" caption="Tie 3"]Tie 3[/caption]

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="460" caption="Tie 4"]Tie 4[/caption]

In case the blue is a little to sedate for you folks I did include two orange ties.  Heck it is California ;-)

The Missed Wedding

I dont know if I have said this before but it bears mentioning and reviewing nontheless.

My Main business, I mean the "pays the rent business" is a kids shop clled Tuesday's Child.  You can see what we do on Tuesday's Child's website.  Sometimes it gets in the way of the little on the side men's stuff that I do here.  With buying season in full swing for the kids shop this was one of those times.

A customer emailed me last week that he was heading to a wedding in California and needed a pocket square (no tie was being worn, "Heck Jonathan,  its California"  was what he said.) to go with a white jacket, blue pants and either a pink shirt or a light blue shirt.

I had already sold him a square before and thought it would work well with either choice shirt, being that it was a bold colored square and would pop against the white jacket but then promised him I would send some more options.  I got busy and didn't and he is leaving tomorrow for the west coast :-(.

Saving grace is that the wedding is Saturday so I may have time to send it overnight to him in California assuming he likes.

Here goes:

The white jacket is from the kids shop and was used just for the photo.  Some may notice the lapels are small.

The square is from the most recent collection.  I like it for its soft pastelly colors.

Whats a paisley?

So it turns out that Paisley is a town in Scotland which is credited for its famous design, amoebas!

Whodduthunk?

That being said often people confuse paisleys with other floral patterns.

These are paisleys. Some are abstract with a non obvious pattern. Some are patterned. And the bottom Petronius is a neats pattern.

and here are closeups of the ties:

This is a nice tie.

But its not a paisley.

But forgetting about the fact that its not a paisley in name and pattern bear in mind that the paisley when done abstractly is good becaause it doesnt restrict to a clear pattern, and with a floral tapestry or brocade like the one above you effect the same thing (even if its not an amoeba).

:-)

More (and better) paisleys

So I wasnt all that crazy about the quickies from yesterday as I think that this particular jacket leans toward a strong red/brown highlight.  Especially with the brwon/burgundy tie and what threw it off here was the dark navy square, so I swapted that out for this square and the result is this:

And with the large blue paisley I thought that the navy of the jacket was better matched with a stronger contrast and thats where this one came in.

Finally, As above this jacket goes perfectly well with this paisley neets pattern from Petronius:

The wonderful world of paisleys

This week we devote to paisleys.  The various different sizes, shapes, colors mizes of paisleys.

I was in the city today but in the morning stopped by the store to get  some goods for a customer and snapped a few quick shots with the shirt and sportscoat that was there from last week.  Not necessarily where I want to go with this weeks planned photo essay but a start.

This combo for some muted contrast.  While the tie is not predominantly paisley it does have the paisleys in there which allow it access to this post :-)

And this for a brighter one.

Couple More ere the Weekend

Just another sportscoat and shirt combo with the same tie to show just how much use one can get from a pindot tie.

Medium Blue Shirt paired with the Same tie, a Hickey Freeman His First Sportcoat, and the navy vintage square.

Made up of this:

You see the pindot accomplishes a second color without restricting to a particular pattern (unlike stripes and paisleys which tend to restrict the backdrops to less busy on account of their being busy enough.)

Chew on it over the weekend.

Cheers!

PS:  In case you missed it I am on sale on Suits and Coats at half price.

Yet more dots

Same tie as last post.  Same Shirt as last post.  Two different applications. (and two different squares.)

First up, Navy Shadow pin stripe suit with light blue shirt and a vintage square.

Light Grey Suit with blue pin stripes  Matches well with the light blue shirt and light blue and ecru square.

Again the burgundy tie picks it all up.

Back with more Pindots

OK.  Back and ready to go.  Other than meeting one of the Colombo Cashmere Owners, Roberto Colombo, we were sadly dissapointed about the trip this time as the kids lines (which is what we go for for the most part) was uninspiring.  I did order some really nice ties for the coming season as well as some new squares and some contrast border squares for somewhat immediate arrival.

Anyway, back to the Pindot discussion.

Here you have two colors of the same patterned tie (both are four folds), together with a light Blue mildly textured weave shirt (not really sure as to what you might call the fabric) and a black (yes black) lightly windowpane checked suit.  The Lighter Color tie is probably more useful albeit less dressy.  The darker is for more serious events.  Either way very usable in being there but not too much.

Made up of this. I particularly like this square as it can end up looking like so many different squares. Here the gold hits against the starkness of the black suit and dark tie popping a little.

Using the lighter tie you get a more bright look (not screaming but more awake). Square remains the same.
